AXIS self-contained steam biological indicators are designed to monitor the steam sterilization process. They contain bacterial spores on a filter paper inside a plastic tube with a cap. Inside the tube, a sealed glass ampoule holds a special culture medium that changes color when spores grow. They are placed in the sterilization chamber with the materials, packaged appropriately for the process.
